This list includes the top resorts in Europe for families, places with safe zones, and fun activities for children of all ages, rest assured your kids will be having a great time while you get to enjoy the slopes. Parents from all around the world, this one is for you
What’s the first thing we love about this place? Car-free environment! The village of Saas-Fee is totally car-free, upon arrival, visitors need to park in the multi-story car park near the village and they will then be transported by electric taxis to the entrance, but no cars are allowed inside the Saas-Fee village...doesn’t that sound great? This alone is already an incredible perk especially for families with toddlers that just run around non-stop.
That’s not all the good news, in Saas-Fee, you can also find activities for all the family, and a daycare for your children if you want to escape to the tougher runs on the mountains for a day. Here are some fun things to do:
This is an activity for the whole family to enjoy. Embark in an adventure to uncover the legendary priest Imseng’s secret by searching his historic house for clues and following his trail starting from Saas-Grund, all the way up to Saas-Fee. An activity to bring the whole family together and discover breathtaking views.
At an altitude of 3,500m above sea level, you will find an underground world to discover. Step inside the Fee Glacier where the story of 2000-year-old ice is being told through mysticism, fairytales, and legends. Redesigned in 2016, this experience has become a must for anyone going to Saas-Fee especially if traveling with children, you can even witness a reproduction of an avalanche thanks to light effects and a pressure wave that can be felt all over the body. Your kids are going to feel like they stepped into a magical world.
Take your kids to the Fruggstalden Ski Area where Kian the dragon will welcome them with a tipi and igloo where kids’ movies are shown or have a family race down the snow tubing tracks on giant rubber tires. All in all, it’s a great space for kids and all the family to have fun.
With up to 11km of tracks for sledding, you can enjoy this activity both by day or by night. Grab your sleds and your headlight and enjoy a run down the slopes under the stary skies with the whole family.
Clearly, Saas-Fee has it all for a fun family vacation, your kids will never have a dull moment and there are plenty of activities for all the family to enjoy together!
Avoriaz is another great car-free resort, as many other family-friendly resorts out there. The resort also has many activities for the whole family and during the winter holidays, they are continuously scheduling free entertainment and organized events just for children.
Buying ski passes for a big family for a long vacation can be quite an expense, but in Avoriaz they have got you covered with amazing reduced prices for everyone, kids up to the age of three are free, children’s ski passes are valid up to the age of 15 (in most resorts it only goes up to the age of 12), and teenagers from 16-19 also get a reduced ski pass rate!
If you want to take a break from skiing why not try a water park? Aquariaz is an indoor water park with plenty of pools and entertainment for the whole family. When you enter the building is like you have traveled to the tropics, with a temperature of 29°C this place is the perfect escape from a cold and grey day.
In the middle of the mountains, you will find an eco-friendly snowpark designed especially for children and run by its mascot Shreddie. This place is perfect for kids to get the feeling they’re in an adult snowpark but built for their size. Children can develop their skills on the whoops (a succession of bumps), little kickers (moguls), and boxes (freestyle modules) which are all at ground level allowing the kids to feel safe and in control. When they’re done with skiing, kids can run around on Shreddie’s tree hut and explore his habitat.
The Children’s Village
Offering different group activities for all ages, the children’s village located in Avoriaz 1800 splits children into 3 groups, ages 3-4, 5-12, 13-16, making sure each group had tailored activities to their ages and spend a pleasant day in the company of other kids. Sometimes kids need their space too and this is the perfect place for them to make friends during their vacations while the parents enjoy a day out on the slopes.
In the Dolomites of Trentino, Val di Fassa has thought of everything to make sure the kids get a break from mum and dad, they have an immense array of activities and daycare for all ages from morning until night. Of course, there are also many places that can be visited and enjoyed as a family, but here kids really get to be independent while being taken care of by qualified staff. Here are 3 reasons why this resort is loved by families:
Val di Fassa went a step further and actually designed a whole hotel dedicated to children. This hotel has it all for children, they have a mini club with staff and entertainment 6 days a week, you can have dinner with entertainment, they have an activities program specifically designed for families, and you can book a babysitter whenever you want. Your kids will absolutely love it here.
If a family-themed hotel is too much for you, there is still plenty of activities for you to do as a family. There are plenty of areas for the whole family to go sledding, both by day and by night, enjoy a night out in which all the family can participate.
This waterpark really has something for everyone. If you want to have a fun and exciting day you can go to the pool and slides area where you will find not only slides for kids but also waterslides for adults. On the other hand for the mums looking for some relaxing and recharging, there is an outdoor heated pool with hydromassage directly in front of the mountain chain of Cantinaccio (Unesco World Heritage), a place where you can sit in silence as you unwind from the day on the slopes. The waterpark also includes an area for wellbeing and relaxation offering beauty treatments and massages so you can relax while your kids are playing on the slides.
It’s clear that Val di Fassa really thought about the whole family when creating their resort which makes definitely makes it a place to consider when planning your next family ski holiday.
Located in Valle d’Aosta, Pila is said to be a truly magical place to spend your winter holidays, with plenty of entertainment and activities for people of all ages, and traditions to take part in for example Torchlit Parade of the Instructors every 30th of December, which can be very exciting to watch. Other family-friendly activities include:
A ski area designed for children but to which adults can access too in order to keep the family together. In this area, you can go tubing, sledding, and ride on inflatables down the slopes, and for the climb back up you don’t have to worry since there is a magic carpet to take you.
Fun Slope Pila
These slopes will make your kids feel like they are big boys and girls skiing like professionals. These runs are designed for children but include curves, parabolics, and small jumps to help them take their freeride skills to the next level.

In addition to these super fun activities, Pila also has a Baby Ski Snow Academy, and two children clubs where your kids can spend the day while you go for a run on the big kids’ slopes.
