I started skiing aged 6 at Bearsden Ski Club, Glasgow. Growing up I ski'd all over Scotland, particularly at Glencoe Mountain and Nevis Range. I was a member of the race section at Bearsden Ski Club, where I raced and trained until the age of 18.
At age 16 I begun teaching and since then I have worked in Scotland, Switzerland, Italy, Canada and New Zealand. I have received training in each of these countries, which had helped me to develop a well rounded approach to ski instructing.
I also have experience in coaching tennis, and I am a qualified TEFL teacher.
My years of experience in Saas Fee have provided me with an excellent knowledge of the terrain on offer. I will find the perfect terrain for you to improve your skiing skills, and to push yourself to the next level.
I can also provide recommendations for the best hotels, restaurants, cafes and bars.
Ally was excellent. Very helpful and increased our confidence. Would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone of any ability. Thank you Ally!
Ali was such a brilliant instructor. He really helped our children to improve and was so sweet and kind to them too. Would definitely use him again.
We principally used Ally as a ski guide rather than an instructor as we were all competent intermediate skiers but didn’t know the ski area at all. Ally did manage to combine technical tips too though which actually proved very useful for all of us. He was very cheerful and friendly throughout, and we would definitely recommend him for an age or stage of skier.
We love Ally! He was our instructor for the first 2 and a half days of our stay in Saas-Fee and we couldn’t think of a better way to start our trip. My two girls (aged 10&12) absolutely loved him, especially our youngest (maybe because she got away with not holding her skis for 2 days😉) he was great with them: from technical instructions, humour, patience and attention. For only their second time skiing they enjoyed every second, their confidence and ability have progressed so so much! Ally has the experience and knowledge on the approach to take regardless of someones level or ability. I myself was the weakest link but he was consistently patient, managing to put me at ease and giving just the right amount of encouragement when needed. A simple instruction on just how to breathe worked wonders! Easy to communicate with (and our family talk a lot!😆) super friendly, great company and just a genuinely all round decent guy.
Ally was fantastic. He was really patient with my kids and a great instructor.
Ally was such a great instructor. He had my up and skiing on the first day. Would really recommend him
I spent 2.5 hours with Ally. I’m a novice skier and was struggling to find my rhythm. Ally taught me a bunch of techniques that slowed down my reactions and helped to get the skis flowing rather than a somewhat panicked flow. After the session I was a lot more confident in getting down the slopes and have a great grounding to keep hitting the slopes. Thanks Ally!
You can arrange the meeting point with your chosen instructor by using the Maison Sport messaging system. We recommend agreeing this before you book your lessons, but it can always be arranged at a later date. The instructor should be able to suggest somewhere that is convenient for you both.
Any instructor that has a blue ‘verified’ tick icon on their profile has had their qualifications vetted and verified by the Maison Sport team, the level of qualification required to have a verified account on Maison Sport varies slightly by country. As follows: France – all verified instructors must carry a ‘Carte Professionelle’ licence, the qualification requirements for this licence are very high. The licence is administered by the French Government (to attain a Carte Professionelle most instructors will have studied for an average of 5 years+ to attain the correct level of qualification). Aside from requiring the instructor to have the highest level of qualification, which includes numerous teaching and technical performance diplomas in skiing or snowboarding, European mountain safety courses and the Euro speed test, the instructors are also required to have a criminal record check and a first aid certificate. Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Finland, Scotland, Spain – all verified instructors must carry a minimum level of qualification which must be at the ISIA card level or above. Instructors working independently must provide documentation to show they meet the local regulatory requirements to do so and instructors that are working for a ski school must provide details of the school they work for.
Unless otherwise agreed with the instructor no more than 6 people can take part in a lesson, each instructor will have their own policy for this, so it is best to just double check with them by sending a message. Most instructors won't charge extra if there is more than 1 person taking part in the lesson, but always best to check with them before booking.s
If you are on a desktop computer or laptop, you will see a box on the right hand side of the screen which contains various lesson options and pricing, simply select the lessons you would like and then click 'Book now', then follow the instructions to make payment.
