I was a ski racer in South Tyrol in my teen years, then I went on to study economics and management. I spent 3 years in the US and hold an MBA from Columbia University, New York. But my love for skiing was stronger than anything else and I was able to work as a ski instructor for my whole life. A couple of years ago I decided to retire from the business world and to be a ski instructor full time.
I enjoy teaching beginners as well as advanced skiers, from snowplow to carving technique. Of course I will also be your culture and gourmet guide, after all these years I know the best mountain huts and I will tell you about the history of my mountains.
Sorry but no children and first timers/total beginners.
Walter was very patient and good at helping me build up my technique step by step.
We skied with Walter in very challenging conditions, heavy snow and white out. He was charming friendly and interesting. We would highly recommend him
We met again with Walter in Cortina. Amazing experience! He patiently helped me with my carving and greatly improved my short turns. His advice made me more confident and improved my technique significantly. And I had a lot of fun and very interesting conversations, as always. It is a true pleasure to spend time with Walter in the mountains. I'm looking forward to meeting him again in the next season.
Walter is a good instructor with great local knowledge and years of experience as a ski instructor in the area. He covered alot of basic skills with me over 2 days as I was very out of practice and then did more advanced skills with my son. Walter is very courteous, punctual and helpful with with all the finer details of skiing as well as insights into ski psychology also. I would recommend him.
Walter is unique: he tries to make you feel comfortable from the very beginning, getting the proper context on your level and goals. He patiently helped with my carving and improved my confidence drastically. He summarizes what a perfect ski instructor is, in my opinion: attentive, pragmatic, and effective. And a big plus for me: great conversations, a lot of fun, and visiting beautiful places. That's what skiing is for at the end of the day. Totally recommended! Looking forward to meeting him again.
We’d enjoyed and got so much out of our first lesson with Walter that we booked a second session. Again, he was super - patient and calm, fine tuning technique whilst also building our confidence and challenging us appropriately. Quite apart from the tutoring, he expertly took us to the better afternoon snow! Fantastic instructor and thoroughly nice guy! We look forward to booking him again when we return next year!
Walter was great - he really understood and was sensitive to the specific brief of a nervous, returning skier! We thoroughly enjoyed our lesson, taking away lots of technical pointers and having been appropriately challenged. Would definitely recommend. The booking process was very smooth too.
I fell while skiing last winter and hurt my leg. When returning to the slopes I feared I would fall again and was afraid of making the turns and didn’t have currage to make it to the red slopes. I met up with Walter and he helped me loose the fear, corrected my teqnique and improved it. We went from blue slopes to the black slope! I highly recommend Walter! 🙂
Great session with Walter who delivered much more than expected. Instruction was clear and well delivered. Especially recommended for carving and controlling speed with confidence.
Walter was fab at improving my technique and building my confidence on steeper slopes. His instruction and feedback was clear and easy to follow - I really improved during our session. Thanks Walter!
Walter is one of the best ski instructors I’ve had the pleasure to meet. His English is great and he is very patient. I would highly recommend him.
Relatively new skier (1 previous trip) Walter was perfect for quickly re-familiarising myself with basic techniques then progressing through to parallel turns and onto steeper blue slopes. He was patient, and provided clear and simple-to-understand prompts which I used for the rest of the holiday.
Walter is fantastic!! We spent the afternoon together in Lech for a bit of a tune up. He gave specific technical pointers and helped build skills one by one. He is patient and kind and funny! I look forward to seeing him again soon.
Very professional and experienced!
You can arrange the meeting point with your chosen instructor by using the Maison Sport messaging system. We recommend agreeing this before you book your lessons, but it can always be arranged at a later date. The instructor should be able to suggest somewhere that is convenient for you both.
Any instructor that has a blue ‘verified’ tick icon on their profile has had their qualifications vetted and verified by the Maison Sport team, the level of qualification required to have a verified account on Maison Sport varies slightly by country. As follows: France – all verified instructors must carry a ‘Carte Professionelle’ licence, the qualification requirements for this licence are very high. The licence is administered by the French Government (to attain a Carte Professionelle most instructors will have studied for an average of 5 years+ to attain the correct level of qualification). Aside from requiring the instructor to have the highest level of qualification, which includes numerous teaching and technical performance diplomas in skiing or snowboarding, European mountain safety courses and the Euro speed test, the instructors are also required to have a criminal record check and a first aid certificate. Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Finland, Scotland, Spain – all verified instructors must carry a minimum level of qualification which must be at the ISIA card level or above. Instructors working independently must provide documentation to show they meet the local regulatory requirements to do so and instructors that are working for a ski school must provide details of the school they work for.
Unless otherwise agreed with the instructor no more than 6 people can take part in a lesson, each instructor will have their own policy for this, so it is best to just double check with them by sending a message. Most instructors won't charge extra if there is more than 1 person taking part in the lesson, but always best to check with them before booking.s
