What is a Catered Ski Chalet?

If you like the idea of someone else doing the cooking and cleaning whilst you’re on your ski holiday, consider a catered ski chalet! Catered chalets offer a social atmosphere with all of your basic needs (and usually much more!) provided for. Why be confined to a hotel room when you can have the comfort of a whole property, and enjoy a home away from home? Catered ski chalets are a luxurious and convenient option for skiers who want to focus on enjoying their holiday without the added hassle of cooking and cleaning.

What Services Are Included in a Catered Ski Chalet?

Depending on the size of the property and the group, catered ski chalets come with at least one chalet host who will do all the cooking and cleaning for you. Your chalet host(s) will usually either live on-site, or close by and will be there to welcome you when you arrive in the resort. Your chalet host(s) will be present during your stay, making sure you have all the information and local advice you need, as well as clean accommodation and an enjoyable dining experience throughout your stay. Transfers and ski passes are often also included in a catered ski chalet holiday and can be organised by your accommodation provider.

What Food is Included in a Catered Ski Chalet?

Most catered chalets work on the classic ‘chalet board’ concept, which is essentially half-board catering. You will enjoy a hearty breakfast before you hit the slopes and dinner will be prepared for you in the comfort of your accommodation in the evening. There will also usually be the added extra of a delicious cake waiting for you each afternoon when you return from skiing and wine is generally included with your dinner. Chalet hosts will have at least one full day off during your stay, so take this opportunity to try one of the local restaurants – ask your host for recommendations!

Will Dietary Requirements Be Catered For?

Chalet operators will be able to accommodate most common dietary requirements, for example vegetarian, dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan requests. Due to the limited availability and price of dietary-specific products and the additional time required to prepare separate dishes, small surcharges may sometimes apply. Be sure to discuss your specific dietary requirements prior to booking to ensure they can be accommodated.

Are Catered Ski Chalets Family-Friendly?

Many catered ski chalets are family-friendly and can offer child-friendly meals and family entertainment. Chalets often provide rooms with multiple beds or connecting rooms to accommodate families. Several chalets also have childcare facilities available which make them a great choice for families with younger children. Will I find a Catered Chalet Suitable for My Group Size?

Catered chalets vary in size and can range from small intimate properties from just 6 people, all the way up to catering for large groups of friends, families or corporate teams. Some operators also offer the opportunity to book by the room, providing options for couples and smaller families who don’t necessarily fill a whole chalet, which can be a fantastic opportunity to socialise with like-minded people.

Will a Catered Ski Chalet Holiday Be Expensive?

Catered ski chalets don’t have to break the bank! Chalet operators vary greatly in price, from those who provide tasty home-style cooking at affordable prices, all the way up to those offering private chefs and top-end Michelin quality food, so there’s something out there to suit most budgets. Prices can also vary depending on the standard and style of accommodation, location, proximity to the slopes and facilities available (for example hot tubs and saunas).

Are Tips Included in the Price of a Catered Ski Chalet?

Tips are generally not included in the price of a catered ski chalet and are at your discretion. It is customary to tip the chalet staff in the local currency at the end of your stay if you are pleased with the service provided.
