The number 1 way to get the most out of your ski instructor

4 October, 2016 3 min read

When you book a ski instructor for your ski holiday, you normally have a good idea of what you want to get out of the lesson. People book ski lessons for a variety of reasons including one or many of the following:

· To learn to ski

· To stay safe

· To improve skiing performance

· To increase confidence

· Childcare

· To guide them around the mountain

· To show them the best restaurants

· For entertainment

As a ski instructor myself one of the first questions I ask when I meet a client on the mountain is “what do you want to get out of the lesson”, the answer normally comes back with one of the above and I have the next 10 seconds to decide which lift to take and then plan the lesson in my head during the next lift ride. This situation is far from ideal, for both the client and the instructor, but it happens every day, the reason it happens is down to a fault in the booking process.

This is a regular occurrence for ski instructors working for ski schools, as most bookings are taken via email or over the phone by a reservations team, important information is missed. Sometimes reasons are given for why the lesson is being booked, but on many occasions helpful questions are not asked, or the information isn’t passed onto the instructor. If the instructor had been the one taking the booking, they would probably have asked for certain information, making it easy to prepare for the lesson, to make sure the client gets exactly what they want from it.

So if you find yourself booking a lesson in the coming months, make sure you let the reservations team know exactly what you want from the lesson, and that you want this information passed on to the instructor before she arrives to meet you in the morning.

Alternatively, you can try Maison Sport (www.maisonsport.com), the website enables you to choose the instructor you would like to ski with and chat to them prior to booking any lessons. This ensures the instructor knows what you would like to achieve during your lessons, allowing her to plan the lesson in advance, which will increase the chances of you getting maximum benefit and enjoyment from your lessons. Once you’ve had a lesson with an instructor through Maison Sport they will also leave you feedback on your skiing. This record will help you on your next trip and give future instructors a useful insight into your skiing history, so they can make informed decisions when planning your lessons.
