Courmayeur Resort Overview

Located at 1,224m and with a ski lift reaching a height of 2,763m, Courmayeur is situated at the foot of Mont Blanc, providing a spectacular backdrop for your ski holiday. It’s a gateway to the Aosta Valley ski region, boasting around 100km of pisted terrain.

Constructed in the 1930s, the resort maintains its traditional charm, with a pedestrianised centre and a wealth of cosy, wooden chalet-style accommodation. The resort is renowned for its reliable snow cover, ensuring excellent skiing conditions from December through to April. 

Skiing in Courmayeur

Courmayeur offers superb skiing for all levels of skiers, with an impressive 100km of pisted terrain to explore. There are ample gentle, wide runs for beginners, as well as more challenging routes for intermediate and advanced skiers.

For those starting out, the Dolonne area offers an ideal learning environment with its gentle slopes and calm atmosphere. For intermediate skiers, the variety of red runs accessible from the Cresta d’Arp lift provide a great challenge and stunning views of Mont Blanc. 

For the more adventurous, Courmayeur offers some thrilling off-piste skiing. Head to the Cresta d’Arp for some of the best off-piste skiing in the region. Expert skiers can also challenge themselves on the steep and often moguled runs of the Youla and Gabba sectors.

Courmayeur is also a favourite destination for freeride skiing and snowboarding, with a number of ungroomed and marked freeride zones.

Courmayeur prides itself on being a family-friendly resort, with a safe, car-free centre and a range of ski-in-ski-out accommodation to choose from, including both hotels and apartments. The resort offers a variety of family-friendly amenities including child-friendly restaurants, play areas and a free sledging area. 

Après-Ski Scene in Courmayeur

Courmayeur has a lively après-ski scene with a selection of bars, restaurants and shops to enjoy. The resort is home to the famous Super G wine bar, known for its extensive wine list and vibrant atmosphere. 

For a more relaxed evening, head to the American Bar at the Hotel Courmayeur for a cocktail, or visit Bar Roma for a traditional Italian aperitivo. For those looking to party into the night, Poppy’s Pub is a popular spot with live music and a lively atmosphere. 

Dining in Courmayeur

Courmayeur offers an array of excellent eateries, both on and off the slopes. In the resort itself, La Terrazza offers a gourmet menu with panoramic views. For a taste of local cuisine, head to Maison de Filippo where you can sample traditional Aosta Valley dishes in a rustic setting. 

How to Get to Courmayeur

The quickest way to reach Courmayeur from the UK is to fly into Turin Airport, which is approximately a 1h30m transfer from Courmayeur. Other nearby airports include Geneva Airport (2h30m) and Milan Malpensa Airport (2h40m). If you choose to travel by train, the nearest station is Pré-Saint-Didier (6km from Courmayeur).

  • For the best views of Mont Blanc, head to the top of the Cresta d’Arp lift – the panoramic views are spectacular. 
  • Try the hot chocolate at Bar Roma – it’s a local favourite!
