St Christoph am Arlberg is an impressive resort, boasting a vibrant atmosphere and superb skiing conditions. Located at 1,800m, this high-altitude resort forms part of the Arlberg ski area, offering an impressive 305km of skiable terrain. This is often seen as one of the most reliable snow-covered regions in the Alps. The resort’s own Valluga glacier, which reaches up to 2,810m and presents panoramic views across the Stanzertal Valley, offers year-round skiing opportunities.

With an efficient and comprehensive lift system, and links to the neighbouring resort of St. Anton, there’s much to explore. It’s ideal for intermediate and advanced skiers, offering exciting runs and off-piste skiing, but it also caters well to beginners. Discover our complete guide to skiing in St Christoph am Arlberg.

St Christoph am Arlberg Ski Area

The ski area in St Christoph am Arlberg comprises three main regions; Galzig, Gampen and Kapall, all directly accessible from the town centre. The ski area consists of 88 runs, of which 42% are blue, 40% are red and 18% are black.

Beginner Skiing in St Christoph am Arlberg

Despite a reputation for being best suited to intermediate and advanced skiers, St Christoph am Arlberg has an array of nursery slopes and expansive, gentle runs for beginners. The typically excellent snow conditions are perfect for learners, and the two main nursery slopes are located in the village and at the top of the Galzig gondola. Once you’re confident on the nursery slopes, there are dedicated beginner areas to explore, such as Nasserein and Gampberg. The easier runs in St Christoph am Arlberg are at higher altitudes, with the pistes becoming more challenging as you ski back down to the resort, so we recommend taking the lifts back down if you’re still building confidence.

Intermediate Skiing in St Christoph am Arlberg

St Christoph am Arlberg is fantastic for intermediate skiers wanting to challenge themselves and advance their skills. With a wealth of blue and red runs, adventurous intermediate skiers are spoilt for choice. The Galzig area is a great spot for lower-intermediate skiers, with numerous wide, rolling blues. More advanced intermediate skiers should head to the Kapall area and ski down to St Anton. One of our favourite runs in this area for intermediate skiers is the Schindlergrat run. This thrilling red run is a famous World Cup downhill course and is an exciting one to tick off your bucket list!

Advanced Skiing in St Christoph am Arlberg

St Christoph am Arlberg is renowned as a prime resort for advanced skiers. With nearly 20% of runs in the resort being categorised as black, there is a wide selection of challenging terrain to explore. A particularly well-known run in St Christoph am Arlberg is the Valluga. Known as one of the most iconic black runs in the Alps, this run is not only challenging due to its steep incline of 70% and almost 1,000m vertical descent but also its tendency to become incredibly icy in the afternoons. We recommend tackling this piste in the morning while the snow is still soft and forgiving!

Off-piste Skiing in St Christoph am Arlberg

St Christoph am Arlberg is a haven for experienced skiers, offering some of Europe’s finest lift-served off-piste skiing. From steep chutes to snow-filled bowls, there’s plenty of off-piste terrain to discover. One of the most popular off-piste areas is the St Anton, which starts on the Valluga glacier and descends into the Stanzertal Valley, ending at the Galzig cable car. If you’re planning on heading off-piste, we strongly recommend booking a local guide or instructor who knows the area well and can ensure your safety.
