Located in the heart of the Austrian Alps, Kaprun is a charming ski resort that sits at 786m, with the highest ski lift reaching an impressive 3,029m. The resort is situated within the Zell am See-Kaprun ski area, which offers 138km of diverse pisted terrain. 

The picturesque village of Kaprun provides a delightful blend of traditional Austrian architecture and modern conveniences. The resort is renowned for its reliable snow conditions, with the ski season typically extending from November to April.

Skiing in Kaprun

Kaprun offers a fantastic skiing experience for winter sports enthusiasts of all levels. The resort, in combination with its neighbour Zell am See, provides access to a total of 138km of pisted terrain, serviced by 49 lifts. 

Beginners will find plenty of gentle slopes to master the basics, including the wide, forgiving runs in the Maiskogel family mountain area. For intermediate skiers, the Schmittenhöhe offers a variety of challenging red runs, while the Kitzsteinhorn glacier provides dependable snow conditions and stunning panoramic views. 

Advanced skiers will relish the demanding black runs on the Kitzsteinhorn, as well as the opportunity to explore some exhilarating off-piste terrain. For freestyle enthusiasts, the Snowpark Kitzsteinhorn offers a range of kickers, rails and boxes, as well as a superpipe.

How to Get to Kaprun

The most convenient way to reach Kaprun from the UK is to fly into Salzburg Airport, which is approximately a 1h20m transfer from the resort. Alternatively, Munich Airport and Innsbruck Airport are both around a 2h30m drive away. If you prefer to travel by train, the closest station is Zell am See, which is just a short taxi ride from Kaprun.
