Obereggen Resort Overview

Perched at 1,550m and with the highest ski lift reaching an impressive 2,500m, Obereggen is a gem tucked away in the heart of the Italian Dolomites. This charming resort is a gateway to the extensive Latemar ski area, which offers an impressive 48km of diverse, skiable terrain.

Developed from a traditional farming village, Obereggen boasts a range of attractive, alpine-style accommodation options, from luxurious hotels to cosy self-catered chalets. With its high-altitude position, Obereggen typically enjoys reliable snowfall throughout the ski season, which generally spans from late November to early April.

Skiing in Obereggen

Obereggen is a paradise for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. The resort offers access to the 18 ski lifts in the Latemar area, with over 48km of well-groomed pistes to explore.

For beginners, Obereggen offers a number of gentle slopes to build confidence, including two nursery slopes. The Absam-Maierl and Ochsenweide are perfect runs for beginners to develop their skills. Intermediate skiers will relish the wide variety of blue and red runs, with the Pala di Santa and Laner offering a bit of a challenge.

Obereggen is also home to some fantastic high-altitude skiing for the more advanced. Try the thrilling black runs of the Zanggen and Laner, or venture off-piste to discover some wild, untouched terrain.

Obereggen is also well-known for its night skiing, with 1.5km of floodlit pistes open three times a week. The resort also offers an exciting snowpark, with jumps, rails and boxes for freestyle ski and snowboard enthusiasts.

Is Obereggen Family-friendly?

Obereggen is a fantastic ski resort for families, with a safe, friendly atmosphere and a range of ski-in-ski-out accommodation options. The resort offers plenty of family-friendly amenities, including child-friendly restaurants, toboggan runs and an ice-skating rink. Obereggen also offers family lift pass deals and discounts for children under the age of 16.

Après-Ski Scene in Obereggen

Obereggen may be a small resort, but it has a lively après-ski scene, with plenty of bars and restaurants to explore after a day on the slopes. With live music, delicious local wines, and a cosy, welcoming atmosphere, Obereggen’s après-ski scene is not to be missed.

The Platzl Mountain Lounge is a popular spot, offering live music and a stunning terrace with panoramic views of the Dolomites. For a more low-key evening, try the cosy atmosphere of the Bar Christl Alm or the Gasthof Alte Post.

Dining in Obereggen

Obereggen offers a host of excellent eateries, both on and off the slopes. Try the traditional South Tyrolean cuisine at Oberholz, which serves up delicious dishes in a stunning, architecturally award-winning setting. For a unique dining experience, venture to the Baita Gardoné, which combines a charming mountain hut atmosphere with a gourmet menu.

The mountain restaurants in Obereggen offer stunning panoramic views and delicious food. Try the Mayrl Alm, located at the bottom of the Ochsenweide lift, or the Platzl Mountain Lounge at the top of the Absam-Maierl lift.

How to Get to Obereggen

The most convenient way to reach Obereggen from the UK is to fly. The three closest airports are Bolzano (30 minutes), Innsbruck (1h 45m), and Verona (2h). If you are travelling by train, the nearest station is Bolzano (30 minutes). If you choose to drive to Obereggen, free parking is available at the resort.
