Sestrière Resort Overview

Perched at 2,035m, Sestrière is a charming Italian ski resort located in the heart of the Milky Way ski area, which boasts a total of 400km of skiable terrain. Sestrière is the highest resort in the region, guaranteeing great snow conditions throughout the ski season, which typically runs from December to April. 

Sestrière was one of the first purpose-built resorts in the world, established in the 1930s. It offers a range of accommodation options, from luxurious hotels like the five-star Nube D’Argento to self-catered apartments and cosy chalets, mostly located within easy reach of the slopes. 

Skiing in Sestrière

Sestrière offers an outstanding ski experience for all levels of skiers. The resort is linked by lift to the neighbouring resorts of Sauze d’Oulx, Claviere, San Sicario and Cesana, and together they form the Milky Way ski area, which offers a staggering 400km of pisted terrain to explore.

Beginners can enjoy a variety of gentle, wide slopes, perfect for learning the ropes. For intermediate skiers, the opportunities are almost limitless, with a vast array of red runs available to ski across the Milky Way. Sestrière also offers a challenge for advanced skiers, with some thrilling black runs, such as the Kandahar Slalom and the Kandahar Banchetta, both of which are often used for World Cup races. 

In addition to its pisted terrain, Sestrière is also a paradise for freeriders, offering ample opportunities for off-piste exploration. 

Is Sestrière Family-friendly?

Sestrière is a great option for families, with a pedestrianised centre and a range of family-friendly amenities. There’s plenty of accommodation located close to the slopes, making it easier for families to get on and off the mountain. 

The resort offers a variety of activities for children, including a natural ice skating rink, a heated outdoor swimming pool, and a cinema. There are also several ski pass deals and discounts available for families and children.

Après-Ski Scene in Sestrière

Sestrière may be a quiet resort, but it still offers a decent après-ski scene. The resort centre has a variety of bars and pubs where you can enjoy a well-earned post-ski drink. 

For those who want to carry on into the night, there are several nightclubs in Sestrière, including the popular Tabata Club, which often hosts live music events, and the futuristic-looking Kovo, which is the place to go for late-night dancing. 

Dining in Sestrière

Sestrière is home to a variety of excellent restaurants serving a range of cuisines, from traditional Italian fare to international dishes. For a gourmet experience, head to Il Centro, which is renowned for its innovative dishes. For something more casual, Pizzeria Casa Della Pasta serves delicious, homemade pizzas. 

On the mountains, there are several charming huts where you can enjoy a hearty lunch with a view. Rifugio Banchetta, located at the top of the Banchetta lift, is a favourite amongst locals and visitors alike. 

How to Get to Sestrière 

The most convenient way to reach Sestrière from the UK is to fly. The three closest airports to the resort are Turin Airport (1h 30m), Milan Malpensa Airport (2h 30m) and Geneva Airport (3h 30m). From these airports, you can easily arrange a transfer to the resort. If you prefer to drive, there’s plenty of parking available in the resort.
