Italy is home to several incredibly snow-sure ski resorts, so it can be a great option for an early or late-season ski trip when snowfall can be less reliable. Despite Italy not being Europe’s most snow-sure ski destination, it is home to several high-altitude resorts that offer excellent snow conditions and skiing all season long!

1. Cervinia – 2,050m-3,820m

Cervinia, officially known as Breuil-Cervinia, is Italy’s most snow-sure ski resort. Perched at an impressive altitude of 2,050m, Cervinia sits in the picturesque Aosta region of the north-western Italian Alps. Its expansive glacier terrain shared with Zermatt, reaches up to 3,820m, enabling year-round skiing. 2. Livigno – 1,816m-2,798m

Located in Alta Valtellina, Livigno is an incredibly snow-sure ski resort sitting at 1,816m. Excellent skiing is almost guaranteed as the majority of the 115km of pistes lie above 2,000m, with the highest slopes reaching up to almost 3,000m! Alongside its fantastic skiing, Livigno is known for its vibrant après ski scene and tax-free shopping! Livigno is a fun-filled resort and is a great option for skiers of all abilities with a long season beginning in November and typically continuing into early May.

3. Passo Tonale – 1,885m-3,100m

Passo Tonale

Passo Tonale in the Italian Alps has a high altitude of 1,885m-3,100m, making it one of Italy’s most snow-sure ski resorts. With 100km of pistes and access to the Presena Glacier at 3,000m, Passo Tonale offers excellent skiing throughout the season which typically extends from late October to mid-April. The high-altitude, north-facing slopes of Presena offer incredibly reliable snow cover, as do the nursery slopes, so it is a great resort to visit for snow-sure skiing no matter your ability level.

4. Sestrière – 2,035m-2,825m

Sestrière

Sestrière is the most snow-sure of all the ski resorts in the Vialattea (Milky Way) ski area, which is one of the biggest ski areas in Europe! With 400km of pistes to explore, there are plenty of slopes to suit all abilities and more than enough snow to go around! From nursery slopes to an Olympic downhill run, there is something for everyone! Despite the area not having the highest amount of snowfall compared to other snow-sure resorts, the resort sits at 2,035m with its highest slopes reaching up to 2,825m, so the snow it does get holds very well. In addition to this, Sestrière has excellent snow-making facilities to keep the slopes in tip-top condition.

5. La Thuile – 1,450m-2,800m

La Thuile

Located in the Aosta Valley at 1,450m, La Thuile has plenty of snow-sure slopes with the majority of the upper slopes sitting above 2,200m and the highest reaching up to 2,800m. Most of the slopes are north-easterly facing, which means the snow stays firmer for longer thanks to a lack of direct sunlight. La Thuile is linked to the neighbouring ski resort of La Rosière in France forming the Espace San Bernardo ski domain, which offers 152km of pisted terrain to enjoy. The resort is also known for its excellent off-piste skiing, cheap accommodation and quiet slopes.
