Les Arcs was the first purpose-built ski resort in France.
Les Arcs sits in the Tarentaise valley, near to the ski resorts of La Plagne, Val d'Isere and Tignes. Les Arcs is one of the most popular resorts in the world by skier visits, likely due to its wide range of pisted ski runs and a great variety of accommodation. With over 400km of pisted runs, there is a wide range of slopes for all ability levels in Les Arcs. The resort is split into 4 main towns, 2000, 1950, 1800 and 1600 you can also access the resort of Peisey Vallandry which offers some scenic slopes through the trees.

Les Arcs is an excellent area for intermediates with winding tree-lined runs lower down and expansive slopes higher up - you’ll find no end of terrain to discover. The L’Arpette to Plan Peisey is a great 6.2km long piste that guides you down to Plan Peisey, where you can catch the Vanoise Express gondola to explore nearby La Plagne.

In France all instructors must carry a ‘Carte Professionelle’ licence. This licence is administered by the French Government and it takes 5 years+ to attain this. This qualification also includes numerous teaching and technical performance diplomas in skiing or snowboarding, European mountain safety courses and the Euro speed test. The instructors are also required to have a criminal record check and a first aid certificate.

Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Finland, Scotland, Spain – all verified instructors must carry a minimum level of qualification which must be at the ISIA card level or above. Independent instructors must also provide documentation to show they meet the local regulatory requirements to teach.
