About Avoriaz

Avoriaz is the highest ski resort in the huge Portes du Soleil ski area.
One of the most famous ski areas in the world, the ski resort provides skiers with access to over 600km of pisted ski runs. The car-free town of Avoriaz is situated at around 1,200 metres above sea level, sitting on a plateau with impressive views down the valley. The resort of Morzine is nearby, as well as Chatel and you can easily pop over to ski in Switzerland as well. Beginner skiers can enjoy gentle, wide slopes, including two nursery slopes in the resort centre and easy runs to Morzine and Les Gets. Intermediate skiers will find plenty to explore across the Portes du Soleil area, with highlights like the Lindarets Bowl and runs into the Switzerland border. Advanced skiers can tackle challenging black runs in the Hauts Forts area, the infamous Swiss Wall, or explore off-piste areas around Chatel, Lindarets, and Linga. The resort is also a hub for freestyle skiing and snowboarding, featuring six freestyle areas, including the Burton-designed Stash snowpark and a Lil’ Stash for kids. Avoriaz hosts annual freestyle events, such as freeride world tour qualifiers, solidifying its reputation as a freestyle haven. Avoriaz is also a top ski resort for families, renowned as one of the best family-friendly ski resorts. This car-free destination boasts a safe, pedestrianised centre and offers a wide selection of ski-in/ski-out accommodations, including many self-catering options. For families skiing with young children, the resort provides the Avrizou childcare centre, which welcomes children aged 6 months to 5 years. The day nursery features a 300 m² facility designed specifically for their needs and operates from Sunday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Avoriaz also offers family ski pass deals and discounts for children under 16, making it an ideal destination for a family ski trip. The fastest way to reach Avoriaz from the UK is by flying to Geneva Airport, located just 1 hour and 40 minutes away by transfer. Other nearby airports include Chambéry Airport (2 hours 30 minutes), Grenoble Airport (3 hours). For those travelling by train, Cluses is the nearest station, with a transfer time of 1 hour and 10 minutes. If you prefer to drive, underground parking is available on the outskirts of the ski resort.

What is the skiing like in Avoriaz for beginners?

Renowned for its family friendly nature Avoriaz is a great resort for beginners with excellent nursery slopes conveniently located in the resort centre. There are also 4 beginner pistes surrounding the nursery area, which are perfect to progress onto, these include the Proclou run which has a kids fun park full of bumps, small jumps and routes through the trees.

What is the skiing like in Avoriaz for intermediate?

Avoriaz has no shortage of pistes to satisfy intermediate skiers and you can explore the extensive and varied terrain on well connected blue and red runs. Tackle the 65km Portes du Soleil circuit for an exhilarating day long adventure or test your freestyle skills in the Stash snowpark found below the Prolays chairlift.
