Tignes is located in the Tarentaise Valley of the French Alps' Savoie region. It is part of the Tignes-Val d'Isere (formerly Espace Killy, named after the legendary French skier Jean-Claude Killy) ski area shared with Val d'Isere ski resort.

For the ultimate skiing challenge, the black runs in Vallon de la Sache feature steep, narrow paths and spectacular views over a 1,200-metre descent. Intermediate skiers will enjoy numerous blue and red runs around Tignes Le Lac and Val Claret, including favourites like Grattalu and Double M. Beginner skiers can practise safely on nursery slopes in Tignes Le Lac and Val Claret, with gentle runs like the greens at Bollin and Rosset perfect for building confidence.

Tignes is also one of the best ski resorts for families in Europe, offering numerous wide, gentle slopes and excellent nursery areas for beginners. The nearest airports to Tignes are Chamberey Airport (2 hours), Lyon Airport (3 hours), Geneva Airport (3 hours), and Grenoble Airport (3 hours). There is no direct rail route to Tignes; however, you will find regular shared bus transfers available. The closest train station is Bourg St. Maurice, which is a short 30-40 minute transfer from Tignes.
