About Alpe d’Huez

Alpes d’Huez is the sunniest ski resort in the Alps.
Alpe d'Huez ski resort is in the southern French Alps and is a popular resort that offers over 250 km of ski runs to visiting skiers and snowboarders. Alpe d'Huez is also connected to Les 2 Alpes, providing a further 200 km of ski runs. Known as the "Island of the Sun" for its sunny weather, Alpe d’Huez also boasts snow-sure slopes, making it a favourite destination for families, first-time skiers, and snowboarders.

The Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine Ski area is divided into several interconnected sectors, including Alpe d’Huez Centre, Auris-en-Oisans, Oz-en-Oisans, Vaujany, Villard-Reculas, and La Garde, all of which are accessible from the town centre. The ski area boasts 135 runs, comprising 41 green, 34 blue, 40 red, and 20 black pistes, offering a total of 250 kilometres of slopes for all skill levels.

Alpe d’Huez, with its extensive and varied terrain, is surprisingly well-suited for beginner skiers. The resort features a wide range of gentle nursery slopes and spacious runs, making it an ideal choice for those new to skiing or snowboarding. Les Bergers is particularly welcoming for first-time skiers, offering a large nursery slope area equipped with two drag lifts and three chairlifts, which provide access to approximately 12 green pistes and seven blue pistes. This area is designated as a low-speed zone, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for beginners to build their confidence.

Alpe d’Huez is also home to some fantastic off-piste skiing, with a variety of terrain to explore. The area around the Pic Blanc offers extensive off-piste skiing, with deep powder and steep descents. For those who are new to off-piste skiing, the Vallonet run is a great introduction.
