About Samoëns

Samoëns is a lesser known but popular ski resort in France; it is part of the Grand Massif ski area and provides over 265km of pistes whilst being linked to Flaine. Samoëns is famous for its medieval architecture, great food, sunny weather and its very convenient location, just an hour from nearby Geneva airport.

Samoëns is a great resort for beginners with numerous green slopes and gentle terrain close to the village, novices can easily find their skiing legs. Most beginners will start on the nursery slopes in Samoens 1600, accessed by the Grand Massif Express lift. You can even buy a beginner’s lift pass that gives you access to the nursery slopes at a reduced price.

Intermediate skiers will love the vast expanse provided by the Grand Massif ski pass, allowing them to venture into neighbouring areas like Flaine and Morillon. While Samoëns offers a mix of terrains, the blue and red slopes around the Tête des Saix are particularly popular. These runs combine incredible views and uncrowded pistes adding to their popularity.

Expert skiers will find plenty of suitably challenging terrain and there are over 40km of black graded pistes to be explored in Samoëns. The dramatic descents found in the Combe de Gers sector offer some of the steepest terrain in the region and advanced skiers should check out the off-piste opportunities available.

Samoëns is open from mid December till mid April. Despite the lower altitude, Samoëns has some of the highest snowfall in the Alps and has invested heavily in artificial snow creation to ensure sufficient snow cover all season long.
