About Tignes

Tignes is often regarded as having the most reliable snow in the Alps.
Tignes is located in the Tarentaise Valley of the French Alps' Savoie region. It is part of the Tignes-Val d'Isere (formerly Espace Killy, named after the legendary French skier Jean-Claude Killy) ski area shared with Val d'Isere ski resort.

At 2,100 metres, Tignes offers reliable snow and ideal conditions for all types of skiers. Thrill-seekers can tackle off-piste terrain and challenging runs like the famous La Face from The Bellevarde to Val d'Isère. The black runs in the Grande Motte glacier area are particularly demanding, with steep descents and mogul fields that test even the most skilled skiers.

For the ultimate skiing challenge, the black runs in Vallon de la Sache feature steep, narrow paths and spectacular views over a 1,200-metre descent. Intermediate skiers will enjoy numerous blue and red runs around Tignes Le Lac and Val Claret, including favourites like Grattalu and Double M. Beginner skiers can practise safely on nursery slopes in Tignes Le Lac and Val Claret, with gentle runs like the greens at Bollin and Rosset perfect for building confidence.

Tignes is also one of the best ski resorts for families in Europe, offering numerous wide, gentle slopes and excellent nursery areas for beginners. Along with family-friendly activities like an ice rink, swimming pool, and climbing wall, it provides an ideal environment for your kids to enjoy their time both on and off the slopes.

When going on a ski holiday with children, picking a ski resort with a short transfer time is essential, and Tignes has good transport links to the main airports. The nearest airports to Tignes are Chamberey Airport (2 hours), Lyon Airport (3 hours), Geneva Airport (3 hours), and Grenoble Airport (3 hours). There is no direct rail route to Tignes; however, you will find regular shared bus transfers available. The closest train station is Bourg St. Maurice, which is a short 30-40 minute transfer from Tignes.

Maison Sport offers a comprehensive range of ski lessons in Tignes to suit all ages and skill levels. Whether you're interested in private ski lessons, adult group ski lessons, or children's ski lessons, we have options to meet your needs. Tignes FAQs

Ski lessons in Tignes

What is the skiing like in Tignes for beginners?

Tignes is a good resort for first-time skiers, with 4 dedicated beginner areas, although the nursery slopes of Le Lac and Le Lavachet are the best two for beginners. Whilst Tignes does have some gentle blue runs, they are not particularly well connected and beginners may find skiing in nearby Val d’Isère is more enjoyable.

What is the skiing like in Tignes for intermediate?

For intermediate skiers, Tignes is one of the best resorts in the Alps you could visit. The majority of the 300km of slopes are accessible to intermediate skiers and there are a huge variety of blue and red runs to be explored in the massive bowl above Tignes. Double M is a very popular long red run that snakes down from the Grande Motte glacier all the way to Tignes Val Claret.

What is the skiing like in Tignes for experts?

Tignes is famous for attracting expert skiers who wish to experience the excellent off-piste terrain and challenge themselves on the renowned ‘La Sache’, a beautiful black piste that starts at L’Aiguille Percée and follows a remote and secluded valley down to Tignes Les Brevieres. If you’re looking for off piste, Le Spot is a huge unpisted area of the mountain with zones for advanced and intermediate skiers.

When is the best time to ski in Tignes?

Summer skiing on the Tignes glacier is possible from June till July, however, the main resort opens for the winter season from the end of November till early May. Tignes can get very busy during the peak holiday periods, so if you can avoid these times you can take advantage of some amazing conditions with quiet pistes.
