Alpe d’Huez FAQs

Alpe d'Huez is one of the best resorts in the Alps for beginner skiers with 6 dedicated beginner areas. Les Bergers is one of the best learning zones, with a natural progression route from the magic carpet onto the Rif Nel gondola. The gentle green pistes around Les Jeux, such as Chardons and Sagnes offer the next step without any intimidating terrain changes. Book a private beginner ski lesson or an adult group ski lesson in Alpe d'Huez for expert guidance from your very first run.

Alpe d'Huez is exceptional for intermediate skiers. The quieter Montfrais sector above Vaujany is a great area to refine technique and build confidence away from the crowds. The Signal area is a highlight for intermediates, with wide, open blues such as Les Jeux and Marmottes perfect for building speed and refining technique. For a natural step up, Rousses is a long, flowing red that rewards growing confidence with a sustained and scenic descent. Book a private ski lesson in Alpe d'Huez to find the best terrain for your level and progress faster.

Alpe d'Huez is a serious destination for advanced skiers. Le Tunnel is a renowned on-piste challenge, offering a steep descent beneath the Pic Blanc glacier, best skied early before the afternoon sun softens the snow. La Sarenne, the longest black run in Europe, offers a different test: 16km of sustained descent - our instructors recommend early starts before the snow gets tracked out. There are also some excellent off-piste options from Pic Blanc for adventure seekers. Book an expert private ski lesson or explore our dedicated off-piste ski lessons in Alpe d'Huez.

Alpe d'Huez's season runs from early December to late April, with the Pic Blanc glacier keeping snow conditions reliable throughout. January is the sweet spot - quieter slopes, better value and consistent conditions. February half-term is the busiest period, while March offers long sunny days and reliable snow cover on the glacier. Book your ski lessons in Alpe d'Huez well in advance to secure your preferred instructor, especially during peak weeks.

Alpe d'Huez is consistently rated among the best family ski resorts in the Alps. The compact village layout is easy to navigate with young children, and the natural progression from nursery slopes onto the blues above Les Bergers means mixed-ability families can ski together comfortably. Marcel's Farm - a winding green run with farm-themed obstacles and snow features - is a firm favourite with children and parents too! The resort's sunny southerly aspect also keeps temperatures warmer than many high-altitude alternatives, making full days on the mountain more enjoyable for everyone. Book a children's group ski school lesson in Alpe d'Huez or a private instructor, depending on age and ability.
