Mayrhofen is a charming ski resort located in the Zillertal Valley of Tyrol, Austria. Nestled amidst the Austrian Alps, it’s only about 70km east of Innsbruck. Mayrhofen is renowned for its traditional Tyrolean charm, lively après-ski scene, and extensive ski area, making Mayrhofen a favourite destination for winter sports enthusiasts from all over the world. Mayrhofen is well-connected to several major airports, making it accessible for international visitors. The closest airport is Innsbruck, with a transfer time of approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Munich Airport in Germany is another popular option, offering a transfer time of about 2 hours 30 minutes. Salzburg Airport, is slightly further away, requiring around 2 hours 15 minutes by car. The resort is also accessible by train via Jenbach, with a scenic railway journey to Mayrhofen. The Mayrhofen ski area encompasses two main mountains, Penken and Ahorn, which together offer an impressive variety of terrain. It forms part of the larger Zillertal ski region, which provides access to over 530 kilometers of pistes with a single pass. Mayrhofen itself offers around 142km of slopes serviced by 57 lifts. The resort caters to all levels, from beginners and families to expert skiers and snowboarders. With pistes up above 2500m backing onto the Hintertux Glacier and an excellent snowmaking system, Mayrhofen offers great conditions throughout the season. Mayrhofen is famous for its diversity of runs, Penken is known for its challenging terrain, including the legendary "Harakiri" slope, Austria’s steepest groomed piste with a gradient of upto 78%. In contrast, Ahorn offers gentler slopes ideal for beginners and families. The Penken Park is a highlight for freestyle enthusiasts, featuring world-class jumps and rails for all levels. Off-piste opportunities and marked freeride routes also attract advanced skiers. Non-skiers can enjoy activities like tobogganing, paragliding, or winter hiking, further enhancing the resort’s appeal. Mayrhofen is a family-friendly destination with excellent facilities for children and parents. The Ahorn area is particularly suited for families due to its wide, gentle slopes and relaxed atmosphere. The resort offers dedicated ski schools with English-speaking instructors offering excellent adult group and private ski lessons. There are child-friendly learning zones, ensuring young skiers in children's group ski lessons build their skills in a safe environment. Off the slopes, there are plenty of family-oriented activities, including ice skating, indoor swimming pools, and sleigh rides. The vibrant town centre provides a range of dining options, many with kid-friendly menus and cozy atmospheres. Mayrhofen is famous for its lively aprés scene including hosting the famous ‘Snowbombing’ music festival at the end of the season each year.
