About Zermatt

Zermatt is located at the foot of the famous Matterhorn mountain.
Zermatt, located in Switzerland’s car-free Valais Canton, is famous for its reliable snow, iconic Matterhorn views, and expansive terrain that suits every skill level. Starting from 1,620 metres in elevation, Zermatt offers one of Europe’s longest runs—a 16-kilometre descent from the Klein Matterhorn at 3,883 metres.

This vast resort spans 360 km of slopes, ideal for intermediate and advanced skiers, and connects by glass-bottom gondola to Cervinia, expanding options for beginners with extra slopes. Zermatt's high-altitude trails and off-piste areas also make it an excellent choice for adventure-seeking skiers and snowboarders.

Maison Sport offers customised private ski lessons in Zermatt for all levels, guided by our experienced ski instructors. Beginner skiers can enjoy the gentle slopes of Sunnegga and Wolli Park, supported by lift passes focused on these learning zones. Intermediate skiers can explore the extensive red runs and freeride sections, while expert skiers will find excitement in Zermatt’s challenging off-piste terrain and glaciated slopes—perfect for those craving deep powder and steep descents.

Zermatt’s diverse on-piste and off-piste terrain also make it an ideal destination for all skiers and snowboarders. Freeriders can experience open mountain faces, steep couloirs, and forest runs that bring adventure beyond groomed trails. For upper-intermediate skiers, our specialised off-piste skiing lessons in Zermatt offer a safe and thrilling introduction to off-piste skiing, making Zermatt’s natural landscape accessible to those who are ready to explore.

Zermatt FAQs

Ski lessons in Zermatt

What is the skiing like in Zermatt for beginners?

Beginner skiers in Zermatt are well catered for with numerous blue pistes and 3 dedicated beginner zones, the most popular being ‘Wolli’s Park’ on the Sunnegga side. You can even buy a dedicated lift pass for this zone, which is considerably cheaper than a regular lift pass and still includes the Sunnegga Express and a few beginner lifts.

What is the skiing like in Zermatt for intermediate?

Intermediate skiers in Zermatt will find no end of suitable terrain and with a large number of red runs, Zermatt is great for intermediates looking to challenge themselves. For some easy cruisers (often with the best snow) head to the Klein Matterhorn Glacier, or if you want to acclimatise to the altitude first, start on the Gornergrat side before progressing higher.

What is the skiing like in Zermatt for experts?

As an expert skier in Zermatt you will not be disappointed; start out the steeper black pistes on the Sunnegga side before progressing onto some of Zermatt’s many off-piste itinerary runs (marked as yellow on the map). If that wasn’t enough, Zermatt is known as the heliski capital of Europe and is one of the few resorts in Switzerland where you can experience this incredible activity!

When is the best time to ski in Zermatt?

Zermatt is the only European resort to be open all year with guaranteed snow even in summer! However, to experience all of Zermatt’s vast terrain and sophisticated lifts you will need to visit between December and the end of April, when the resort is fully open.
